Milpitas( California): The North American Punjabi Association (NAPA) has extended its full and unwavering support to the 1158 Professors, Assistant Professors, Librarians, and other higher education professionals currently protesting in Punjab for their legitimate recruitment and regularisation demands. In a strong statement, NAPA Executive Director Satnam Singh Chahal urged the Punjab Government to immediately file a review petition in the Supreme Court to address and resolve the legal bottlenecks surrounding their appointments.
Chahal stated that “this is not just a fight for jobs, it is a fight for dignity, for justice, and for the future of Punjab’s education system.” He emphasised that thousands of students in Punjab are already suffering due to teacher shortages, and further delay in resolving the matter is deeply unjust to both educators and learners.
He said that the Punjabi diaspora across North America is deeply concerned and emotionally affected by the plight of these teachers, many of whom are their daughters, sons, nieces, and nephews. “These are highly qualified individuals who have dedicated their lives to teaching and service, and instead of being supported, they are being pushed to the edge—mentally, emotionally, and financially,” Chahal added.
NAPA called upon Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to prioritise education and treat teachers with the respect they deserve, instead of allowing bureaucratic hurdles to crush their aspirations. Chahal further warned that continued negligence would not only erode trust in the government but also damage Punjab’s academic reputation internationally.
NAPA has appealed to civil society, educationists, student organisations, and international human rights bodies to stand in solidarity with these educators. “Punjab cannot afford to lose this generation of brilliant minds to despair and disillusionment,” Chahal concluded.NAPA stands in complete solidarity with the 1158 protesting educators and pledges to raise this issue at every relevant platform—political, social, and legal—until justice is delivered.
