NAPA welcome decision to continue services of 1158 assistant professors and librarians

Chandigarh-The Supreme Court has approved the Punjab government to continue the services of 1158 assistant professors and librarians in government colleges of the state till new recruitment. The Punjab government had requested the Supreme Court to continue the service of these assistant professors and librarians till new recruitment of assistant professors and librarians. The Supreme Court, while hearing the matter, today approved the request of the Punjab government. The North American Punjabi Association (NAPA) has welcomed the decision of the Supreme Court. It is worth mentioning here that on July 14, 2025, the Supreme Court had cancelled the appointments of 1,158 assistant professors and librarians in government colleges of Punjab. In this regard, the Punjab government had filed a petition in the Supreme Court, highlighting the potential loss of education in government colleges due to the removal of professors. Along with this, it had demanded the continuation of the services of these 1158 assistant professors and librarians till new recruitment, which has been approved by the Supreme Court.
