Chandigarh/Jalandhar-Senior Congress leader and MLA from Bholath, Sukhpal Singh Khaira, today strongly condemned Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann for what he termed as the use of derogatory and cheap language to target and humiliate Baba Gurinder Singh Ji, Head of the Radha Swami Satsang Beas, over his meeting with Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia.
Khaira said it was “highly unfortunate and condemnable” that a sitting Chief Minister chose to drag a respected spiritual leader into political mudslinging merely because of a social meeting. He stated that spiritual and religious leaders often meet people from different walks of life, and politicising such interactions reflects poorly on the dignity of the Chief Minister’s office.
Referring to the case against Majithia, Khaira pointed out that the Punjab Government and its Vigilance Bureau have so far failed to place convincing and tangible evidence in the public domain to substantiate the serious charges. He further noted that the Hon’ble Supreme Court has granted bail in the matter, which, he said, raises serious questions about the manner in which the case was projected politically.
Khaira added that the views expressed by Baba Gurinder Singh Ji regarding the alleged false case against Bikram Majithia are now echoing across Punjab, with growing public perception that the Aam Aadmi Party government is misusing the state’s police machinery to implicate its political opponents in fabricated and politically motivated cases. He said such sentiments reflect the deep mistrust people are developing towards the functioning of law enforcement under the present regime.
Khaira said, “Targeting Baba Gurinder Singh Ji and questioning his integrity or intentions through cheap remarks is an attack on the sentiments of lakhs of followers who hold him in high esteem. Political differences cannot justify disrespect towards spiritual figures.”
Demanding accountability, Khaira urged Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to rise above partisan politics and maintain the decorum of his constitutional position.
“I demand that Bhagwant Mann tender an immediate public apology to Baba Gurinder Singh Ji and the Radha Swami sangat for his irresponsible and disrespectful comments,” Khaira said.
He added that Punjab needs responsible governance focused on law, order and development — not personal attacks and political theatrics.
