Calgary (Canada)As part of an effort to further our investigations into the ongoing extortion series targeting the South Asian community, we are releasing photos of select accused to elicit more tips from the public. Since this series began in April 2025, there have been 49 extortion-related incidents in Calgary. Nineteen shootings are tied to this series, targeting both extortion victims and suspects. To date, 16 individuals have been charged with 56 offences in relation to the Calgary series.
Earlier this year, our Organized Crime & Offender Management Section launched two dedicated operations to address this concerning trend, Operation Orion and Operation Outage, which are ongoing and strategically focus on both investigative and suppression efforts targeting extortion-related violence. These proactive efforts prevent violence and maintain public safety.
Since then, we have seen significant success in making arrests, laying charges and reducing the frequency of extortion attempts in Calgary. However, this success is not the end to our operations and investigations.
“Despite laying charges in a number of cases, we want to emphasize that these investigations remain active and ongoing, and additional assistance from the public is critical. We will not stop until everyone involved in these crimes has been identified and held accountable,” says Supt. Jeff Bell of the CPS Criminal Operations & Intelligence Division. “Our success thus far is a direct result of the cooperation and support from community members. We hope that by releasing these photos, community members can provide additional information to help advance our investigations.”
It is possible that the individuals charged may be known to the community by different names and the public may have encountered them under different circumstances. Anyone with information about the extortion incidents or information related to these individuals, including known associates, is asked to contact police or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
