In response to the CBSE’s new draft policy that omitted Punjabi from the list of second languages for Class 10 board examinations, the leaders emphasize the vital role of preserving and promoting Punjabi language and culture. They firmly assert that such exclusion is an assault on the rich linguistic heritage of Punjab and a blatant disregard for the sentiments of its people.
Refuting the CBSE’s explanation that the draft policy is indicative and existing subjects will be retained, Peermohammad and Brahmpura highlight the need for concrete assurances to safeguard Punjabi in the official curriculum. They express dismay at the insensitivity displayed by the BJP government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, accusing them of perpetuating a cycle of deception and neglect towards Punjabis.
“By attempting to erase Punjabi from the educational landscape, the government is not only undermining our identity but also depriving future generations of their linguistic rights and cultural roots,” remarked Peermohammad.
Former MLA Brahmpura echoed this sentiment, adding, “We stand united in our condemnation of this regressive decision and call upon all stakeholders to uphold the sanctity of Punjab, Punjabi, and Punjabiyat. The time has come to fiercely advocate for our language and heritage with unwavering determination.”
The above leaders joined forces in criticizing the BJP, reminding them of the significant contributions Punjabis have made to our country. They emphasized that the Punjabi language holds a special place in the world and cannot be erased. The BJP should refrain from attempts to undermine this rich heritage
