Dhesi Highlights Key Role of NATO Parliamentary Assembly Amid Global Tensions

London-UK Member of Parliament Tanmanjeet Singh Dhesi participated in an important joint meeting of the Defence Committee and the Foreign Affairs Committee, where they hosted Dr. Benedetta Berti, Secretary General of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly. The session focused on strengthening parliamentary cooperation within NATO at a time of heightened international uncertainty.

Drawing on his experience as a former UK delegate to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, Dhesi emphasised the Assembly’s vital contribution in maintaining clear communication channels between allied nations. He noted that this forum allows elected representatives from all member states to engage openly, share security perspectives, and reinforce unity on defence matters.

Dhesi stressed that in today’s tense geopolitical environment, such parliamentary dialogue is not just symbolic but strategically essential. It ensures that NATO remains coordinated, transparent, and united in addressing emerging threats. He highlighted that the Parliamentary Assembly acts as a bridge between governments, parliaments, and citizens, helping to strengthen democratic oversight over defence and foreign policy decisions.

The meeting reaffirmed the UK’s ongoing commitment to international security cooperation and showcased the active role played by British parliamentarians in global defence discussions.

MP Tanmanjeet Singh Dhesi’s remarks underscored the need for continued collaboration within NATO to safeguard collective stability and peace.
