Punjab Police recover 20kg Heroin from Fazilka, 2 arrested

Chandigarh/Fazilka: The ongoing drive against drugs launched on the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann dealt a major blow to cross-border smuggling after Punjab Police foiled a major drug smuggling bid by Pakistan-based smugglers with the arrest of two persons after recovering 20Kg of heroin from their possession, said Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav here on Sunday.

Those arrested have been identified as Subeg Singh, a resident of Lakhmir Ke Uttar in Fazilka and Sandip Singh alias Seepa of village Mansa in Fazilka.

DGP Gaurav Yadav said that following reliable inputs about the attempt to influx of large quantity of heroin by Pak-based smugglers, Police teams of SSOC Fazilka carried out an extensive operation at Haste ke Road near village Rano of Fazilka, where these accused persons were expected to come after retrieving the heroin consignment dropped from across the border using a drone. After seeing the police party, the accused persons tried to flee on their motorcycle from the spot, but, Police teams managed to apprehend them after a brief scuffle and recovered 10 packets of heroin, weighing 20 Kg, he added.

Divulging more details, Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) SSOC Fazilka Lakbhir Singh said that further investigations are on to find out more people involved in this module. More arrests are expected in the coming days, he said.

A case FIR No. 24 dated 23.07.2023 has been registered under sections 21(C), 23 and 29 of the NDPS Act at Police Station SSOC Fazilka.
