Barnala(Punjab): Former Punjab minister and MLA, and celebrated hockey Olympian Pargat Singh, launched a strong public offensive against the Central Government during the Kisan Maha Rally held in Barnala on Tuesday. Addressing thousands, he accused the Central leadership of adopting policies that are “anti-worker, anti-farmer, and anti-small trader.”
In a series of statements shared earlier on social media, he criticised the Narendra Modi–led government for what he termed the “weakening” of the rural and labour backbone by diluting schemes like MGNREGA. He further alleged that the recently announced India–US Trade Deal amounted to “surrender before the United States,” posing a direct threat to the interests of farmers across the nation.
Speaking from the soil of Punjab, Pargat Singh declared that the fight for the rights of farmers and workers would now be intensified. He told the gathering that Punjab would lead a united front to “force a rollback of these decisions that hurt the backbone of rural India.”
The Kisan Maha Rally in Barnala, organised with massive participation from farming groups, saw Pargat Singh playing a significant organisational role. According to rally coordinators, he worked tirelessly over the past weeks to ensure a large turnout and successful mobilisation, marking one of the region’s biggest political gatherings in recent months.
As protests revive amid new policy concerns, Pargat Singh’s sharp political messaging suggests renewed momentum among Punjab’s agrarian voices ahead of upcoming national debates.
