Chandigarh(Sandeep)Former Punjab minister and MLA Pargat Singh has sparked a fresh political debate by accusing the current state government of taking credit for educational achievements accomplished during the previous Congress regime. In a statement shared on social media, Pargat Singh highlighted that Punjab had already secured the top rank in the National Achievement Survey (NAS) in 2021 when the state was governed by the Indian National Congress.
He pointed out an apparent contradiction in the stance of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, recalling that Mann had earlier dismissed the same NAS results as “fake” when they were released under the Congress-led government. According to Pargat Singh, it is ironic that the same achievement is now being celebrated and promoted by the current administration under the banner of “Sikhya Kranti.”
The former minister alleged that the government’s campaign is an attempt to repackage and rebrand earlier accomplishments rather than present new progress in the education sector. He emphasised that such claims undermine the contributions made by the previous administration and mislead the public about the origins of Punjab’s academic success.
This exchange reflects the ongoing political tussle in Punjab, where both ruling and opposition parties continue to contest narratives around governance, development, and credit for key achievements. Education, being a crucial sector, has now become a central point of this rivalry, with competing claims shaping public perception ahead of future political challenges.
