Former Minister Pargat Singh Warns Punjab Heading Toward ₹5 Lakh Crore Debt, Calls for Honest and Cohesive Governance

Former Minister and MLA Pargat Singh

Jalandhar-Former Punjab minister and senior legislator Pargat Singh has issued a sharp critique of the current state administration, warning that Punjab is heading towards an unprecedented financial disaster. Sharing his concerns publicly, Pargat Singh stated that “Punjab does not just need a government — it needs the right direction.” According to him, good governance is not merely about holding power but about building a sincere, disciplined, and cohesive team capable of rescuing the state from its deepening challenges.

Pargat Singh expressed serious alarm over the mounting financial burden, alleging that the present government is on track to leave Punjab buried under a staggering ₹5 lakh crore debt. He said that this rising debt is not only unsustainable but also a threat to the future of the state’s youth, public services, development projects, and economic stability. The former minister argued that constant borrowing without structural reforms is pushing Punjab towards a point of no return.

He emphasised that Punjab requires visionary leadership committed to long-term planning, fiscal discipline, and transparency. According to him, the state’s finances cannot be stabilised unless the government stops wasteful spending, strengthens revenue generation, and ensures accountability across departments. He also stressed that only a united and honest team can chart a path toward recovery.

Pargat Singh’s statement has sparked renewed debate across political circles, with many calling for a detailed white paper on Punjab’s debt, expenditure patterns, and governance model. As concerns grow over the state’s economic trajectory, his remarks have intensified public pressure on the government to address financial mismanagement and present a clear roadmap for Punjab’s future.
