Amritsar-In a significant step towards social justice and inclusive governance, the Government of India has provided important national-level representation to the Dalit Sikh community of Punjab. The Hon’ble President of India has nominated Mr. Hardeep Singh Gill, District President (Amritsar Rural), Punjab BJP, as a Member of the National Commission for Safai Karamcharis.
Sharing this information, Punjab BJP Spokesperson Prof. Sarchand Singh Khiala stated that the position had remained vacant for a considerable period and has now been filled through a notification issued by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment. He termed the appointment a matter of pride not only for Punjab but for the Dalit Sikh community across the country.
Prof. Khiala further stated that this is the first time a Dalit Sikh has been given responsibility in such an important Central Commission. Earlier, former Union Home Minister Late Sardar Buta Singh had served as Chairman of the National Commission for Scheduled Castes, but since then no Dalit Sikh had received representation in any Central Commission.
Mr. Hardeep Singh Gill has been actively associated with the Bharatiya Janata Party for many years and was serving as District President, Amritsar Rural. He has also served as General Secretary of the BJP Scheduled Caste Morcha and is known for his strong organisational commitment and grassroots engagement.
Expressing gratitude on his appointment, Mr. Gill thanked Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah, the BJP National President, Punjab BJP President Shri Sunil Jakhar, Working President Shri Ashwani Sharma, and Organisation Minister Shri Manthri Srinivasulu for reposing faith in him. He affirmed that he would work with dedication, transparency, and commitment for the welfare, dignity, and rights of safai karamcharis.
On the occasion, Former MLA Manjit Singh Manna Mianwind, Former MLA Inder Iqbal Singh Atwal, Prof. Sarchand Singh Khiala, BJP SC Morcha General Secretary Jasbir Singh Mahiraj, Vice President Kuldeep Singh Siddhupur, BJP OBC Morcha General Secretary Kanwarbir Singh Manzil, Gurpratap Singh Tikka, Former Senior Deputy Mayor Ajeebirpal Singh Randhawa, Tarn Taran BJP District President Harjit Singh Sandhu, and Amritsar Urban BJP President Harvinder Singh Sandhu congratulated Mr. Gill on his new responsibility.
This appointment is expected to strengthen the political and administrative participation of the Dalit Sikh community and further reinforce the Government’s commitment to inclusive development.
