India Forwards US Summons For Adani In Bribery Case To Ahmedabad Court

NEW DELHI – The Indian government has directed a district court in Ahmedabad to process a summons from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) issued to billionaire Gautam Adani over allegations of securities fraud and a $265 million bribery scheme.

The summons, issued under the Hague Service Convention—which prohibits direct service of legal documents in India—requires Adani or his legal representatives to appear in a U.S. court.

The case appears to be scheduled for a hearing in New York, and if the summons is served through the Indian court, Adani would be obligated to appear.

Last month, Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated that he did not discuss the Adani case with U.S. President Donald Trump during his visit to Washington.
