Milpitas(California) – Satnam Singh Chahal, Executive Director of the North American Punjabi Association (NAPA), has made a strong appeal to Sikh community members, gurdwara committees, social organizations, and especially the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) to focus their efforts and resources on the upliftment and welfare of genuinely deserving Sikhs—those who are economically disadvantaged, socially marginalized, or facing injustices both in India and abroad.
“It is our moral and religious duty to stand by those Sikhs who are silently struggling,” said Chahal. “Unfortunately, while many remain neglected, we are witnessing a troubling trend where individuals adopt Sikh identity externally—wearing traditional attire—but engage in activities that violate Sikh principles and bring shame to our collective reputation on the global stage.”
NAPA is calling on Sikh organizations and SGPC to take concrete steps to carefully screen and identify such negative elements, and to ensure that the community’s sacred institutions and symbols are not misused for personal or political agendas.
“We also strongly appeal to our brothers and sisters in the Sikh diaspora to remain thoughtful and responsible in their actions abroad,” Chahal emphasised. “Any reckless or provocative behaviour, even if unintended, can lead to serious repercussions for Sikhs residing in India. Let us not forget that our actions overseas have global consequences.”
Chahal further stressed the importance of unity, vigilance, and compassion:
“Sikhi is not just a matter of appearance—it is a path of truth, service, and dignity. Let us protect that legacy by helping those in need and discouraging those who misuse our identity.”
The North American Punjabi Association (NAPA) reaffirms its commitment to preserving the dignity of the Sikh faith, advocating for human rights, and strengthening community welfare worldwide.
