Tainted Leaders in AAP a Grave Threat to Women’s Safety: NAPA

The North American Punjabi Association (NAPA) expresses its deep concern over the disturbing rise of tainted leaders within the Aam Aadmi Party in Punjab. The conviction of AAP MLA Manjinder Singh Lalpura in a molestation and assault case, the serious allegations of sexual exploitation against former Minister Lal Chand Kataruchak, and the scandal surrounding MLA Balkar Singh have collectively destroyed public confidence in the ability of such leaders to create a safe and dignified environment for women.

NAPA strongly believes that political parties must not protect individuals accused of crimes against women. Instead, they must suspend such leaders immediately, cooperate fully with independent investigations, and ensure that justice is delivered without delay or political interference. Survivors must be given full protection, legal aid, and the confidence that their voices will not be silenced by power or influence.

Executive Director Satnam Singh Chahal stated that the presence of leaders with criminal or immoral backgrounds not only tarnishes the reputation of the political system but also sends a chilling message to women that their safety and dignity are secondary to vote-bank politics. “Punjab cannot afford to normalise such misconduct. If we want our daughters, sisters, and mothers to feel safe, we must demand accountability at the highest level,” Chahal emphasized.

NAPA calls upon the Punjab government, the Election Commission of India, and civil society to come together to ensure that no leader accused or convicted of crimes against women holds public office. True governance begins with clean leadership, and Punjab deserves nothing less.
