Congress President Urges PM Modi to Address Manipur Issue in Parliament

New Delhi: Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi to provide a comprehensive statement in Parliament, addressing the concerning situation in Manipur. He emphasized the need for the Prime Minister to take the country into confidence and shed light on the ongoing violence in the region.

Following a meeting with stakeholders of the opposition alliance ‘Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance’ (India), Kharge expressed deep concern about the situation unfolding in Manipur, stating that it is detrimental to the border state’s well-being.

In a tweet, Kharge urged the Prime Minister to address the Parliament and provide a detailed account of the situation, which has been marred by violence for a distressing 83-day period. The Congress President also highlighted that stories of extreme horror are slowly coming to light, prompting the alliance to seek answers from the Modi government regarding the Manipur violence.

“The situation in the North-East is critical, and the impact of the Manipur violence is being felt in other states as well,” said the Congress President. He emphasized that the unfolding events are particularly concerning for sensitive border states, necessitating swift and effective action.

Kharge called upon Prime Minister Modi to let go of any perceived arrogance and instead instill trust in the country by addressing the issue with transparency and candor.

“The Prime Minister should clarify the government’s actions to improve the situation and provide a timeline for when normalcy is expected to be restored in Manipur,” Kharge emphasized.
