Australians will need to apply for permission to travel to UK

An NFL player has been praised after he caught a young fan, Josh Brolin has revealed he almost got in a fight with Denzel Washington, and John Longmire was on the verge of tears as he told his players that he had quit as coach of the Sydney Swans.Australians travelling to the UK will soon need to pay a fee and apply for permission to enter the country under new border security system changes. The UK government last year moved to introduce the electronic travel authorisation (ETA) scheme, which will require visitors to the country staying for up to six months to apply for permission. Each application costs £10 (about $20), according to the UK government website, with even babies needing an ETA.“Everyone travelling needs to get an ETA, including babies and children. You can apply for other people. You cannot get a refund after you apply,” the website states.Applications have just opened for hopeful Australian travellers, with travel dates beginning from January 8 next year.Applications also opened to countries including Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Guatemala, Japan and New Zealand on Wednesday.Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates nationals can already apply.UK Minister for Migration and Citizenship Seema Malhotra in September said the changes would bring about a “smooth experience” for travellers, according to 9News.“Digitisation enables a smooth experience for the millions of people who pass through the border every year, including the visitors we warmly welcome to the UK who are predicted to contribute over £32 billion ($A63bn) to our tourism economy this year,” Ms Malhotra said.“The worldwide expansion of the ETA demonstrates our commitment to enhance security through new technology and embedding a modern immigration system.”Application criteria includes those visiting the UK for up to six months for the purposes of tourism, visiting family and friends, business or short-term study.
