Filmmaker Iqbal Gajjan arrives with Punjabi web series “Chaukidaar”

New Delhi: Filmmaker Iqbal Gajjan, a prominent figure in Punjabi theater and cinema, has returned to the industry with his latest project, the Punjabi web series “Chaukidaar.” Known for his deep commitment to social welfare through art, Gajjan is a leading personality in the meaningful theater scene and the hero of the Punjabi film Pagdi Sanbhal Jatta.

“Chaukidaar” marks a significant return after a period of absence, highlighting the contemporary social issues facing Punjab. The series sheds light on the struggles of marginalized communities and critiques the current corrupt system, reflecting Gajjan’s socialist and humanist ideologies.

Gajjan, who has collaborated with eminent Punjabi theater figures like Gursharan Bhaa ji and Harpal Tiwana ji, is an advocate for the “national philosophy of humanity,” which he passionately propagates through his theater group, Azad Kala Manch Patiala. His efforts emphasize the importance of drama as a lasting art form that not only entertains but also stirs revolutionary thoughts. He believes that the drama movement, especially in rural Punjab, can inspire social change and a deeper awareness of people’s rights.

Gajjan calls on the newly elected village panchayats to support the arts by organizing plays that foster revolutionary consciousness and combat social evils like gangsterism, drug abuse, and moral decay.

The web series features an ensemble cast including Rama Komal, Karamjit Kaur, Madan Maddi, Khushi Gajjan, Gaurav, Sagar Bindra, Mandeep Singh Sidhu, Kiranpreet Kaur, and Gagandeep Singh Guraya. The music and lyrics are composed by Ravinder Kaur Ravi, Jagmail Bhathuan, D Gill Sahil Star, Harmeet Jassi, and Lakhwinder Labh.
