“Investors Must Step Forward to Promote Education and Youth Empowerment” – Taranjit Singh Sandhu

Sarhali/Amritsar:Former Indian Ambassador to the United States, Advisor to the US-India Strategic Partnership Forum, Chairman of the Geopolitical Institute, and founder of the Viksit Amritsar initiative, Sardar Taranjit Singh Sandhu, addressed a solemn memorial ceremony today, commemorating the death anniversary of Shaheed Sardar Teja Singh Samundri — a founding leader of the Shiromani Akali Dal and a key architect of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC).
Speaking at the event held at Guru Gobind Singh Khalsa Educational Institutions, originally established by Sardar Teja Singh Samundri in 1917 in Sarhali, Sandhu emphasized that investment in education (particularly at the nursery level) and youth empowerment is the need of the hour.
This was not merely a remembrance event, but a deeply moving and inspirational moment rooted in history, emotion, and national pride. The ceremony commenced with the recitation of Sri Sukhmani Sahib, followed by Gurbani Kirtan performed by students. Heartfelt speeches were then delivered highlighting the life and legacy of Sardar Teja Singh Samundri.
In his address, Sardar Taranjit Singh Sandhu, paying tribute to his grandfather’s martyrdom (in 1926, in British custody, Lahore Jail), stated:
“I draw inspiration from my grandfather’s life of struggle, his service and leadership in the Khalsa Panth and the Akali Movement. His contribution is a beacon in my journey.”

He further said:
“His vision extended beyond Sikhism or the freedom movement. His foresight for girls’ education and the foundation of Khalsa educational institutions are vital pillars of our intellectual and cultural heritage. The seeds he sowed have now grown into institutions shaping the future of our youth.”

Sardar Sandhu encouraged students to pursue their goals through technology, science, skill-based and modern education, and reiterated his commitment to elevating these institutions to international standards while staying rooted in Khalsa values.
Sardar Parminder Singh Sandhu, Honorary Secretary of the institution and Sandhu’s former schoolmate, also paid tribute to Shaheed Samundri, pledging to carry forward his noble ideals. He urged students to remain connected to Sikh history and cultural heritage.
The ceremony concluded with a tree plantation by Sardar Taranjit Singh Sandhu, who appealed to the youth to connect with nature and act against pollution.
On this occasion, S. Sandhu also visited his ancestral village Burj Rai of Sarhali.
Prominent attendees included Col. Balbir Singh Sandhu (President of the institution), Dr. Gurlal Singh (Canada), Dr. Simrat Sandhu, and other dignitaries
