New Delhi: The state of Kerala mourns the loss of a prominent political figure as former Chief Minister and Congress leader Oommen Chandy breathed his last on Tuesday at the age of 79. The sad news was conveyed by his son through a heartfelt Facebook post.
Oommen Chandy had been battling illness for some time and was receiving treatment in Bengaluru, Karnataka’s capital city.
Throughout his illustrious political career, Oommen Chandy held the position of a cabinet minister in the Kerala government on four separate occasions. He also commanded the role of Leader of the Opposition in the Kerala Legislative Assembly for four terms, showcasing his versatility and prominence in the political landscape.
The news of Oommen Chandy’s passing was confirmed by Kerala Congress President K Sudhakaran, who expressed deep sorrow on Twitter. Sudhakaran fondly remembered Chandy as the “king who conquered the world with the power of love,” and conveyed his heartfelt condolences to those affected by the loss.
