NAPA condemn massive public money misuse in Sheesh Mahal Scandal

Chandigarh-The North American Punjabi Association (NAPA) has strongly condemned the shocking revelations emerging from the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report regarding the lavish renovation of former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s official residence. According to the CAG findings, the cost of renovation of the Flagstaff Road bungalow skyrocketed to approximately ₹33.66 crore, an astonishing 342% higher than the original estimate. Even more alarming is that nearly ₹18.88 crore of public funds were spent on “superior specifications, artistic, antique and ornamental” interiors, raising serious questions about priorities and accountability.

NAPA stated that such extravagant expenditure, especially under a government that claims to represent the “common man,” is nothing short of a betrayal of public trust. At a time when millions struggle for necessities such as healthcare, education, and employment, the use of taxpayers’ money for luxury renovations is deeply unacceptable. The association further highlighted that the CAG report has also pointed to procedural irregularities, including delayed approvals, diversion of funds, and questionable execution processes. These findings indicate not just financial mismanagement but a systemic failure in governance.

NAPA Executive Director Satnam Singh Chahal emphasised that this issue goes beyond politics and touches the core of democratic accountability. He stated that transparency and responsible governance are non-negotiable in a democracy, and those in power must be held answerable for every rupee of public money spent.

NAPA has demanded:

A time-bound independent investigation into the entire expenditure
Full public disclosure of all renovation-related contracts and approvals
Strict accountability and legal action against those responsible

The association warned that failure to act decisively would set a dangerous precedent, where misuse of public funds becomes normalized under political cover. NAPA reaffirmed its commitment to raising its voice against corruption and misuse of taxpayer money, urging authorities to ensure justice and restore public confidence in governance.
