NAPA Condemns Illegal Demolition of MLA Sukhpal Khaira’s Boundary Wall; Calls It a Dangerous Act of Political Vendetta in Punjab

The North American Punjabi Association strongly condemns the recent demolition of the boundary wall of Congress MLA Sukhpal Khaira’s residence over alleged encroachment—an action carried out without following due legal process. Such conduct signifies a deeply troubling trend in Punjab’s political climate.

The use of state machinery in this manner not only lowers the bar of democratic governance but also raises serious questions about fairness, transparency, and adherence to the principle of natural justice. When legal procedures are bypassed, it sends a dangerous message that political vendetta can override constitutional safeguards.

It is particularly alarming that the decision appears to have been executed under the leadership of Bhagwant Mann, suggesting that intolerance toward political dissent is becoming normalised in Punjab. No democratic government should resort to measures that intimidate or punish elected representatives for their political positions.

NAPA firmly believes that the rule of law must prevail, and all actions by government agencies should be impartial, transparent, and legally sound. Any deviation from this path threatens the democratic fabric of the state and erodes public trust in governance.

We urge the Punjab Government to uphold constitutional values, ensure accountability of officials involved, and restore confidence among the people of Punjab by preventing such politically motivated actions in the future.
