The North American Punjabi Association (NAPA) strongly condemns the manner in which the case involving former minister Laljit Bhullar is being handled by the Punjab Police under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.
It is deeply disturbing that despite the serious nature of the allegations, the accused was presented in court without handcuffs in Amritsar. Such actions raise serious concerns about preferential treatment being extended to politically influential individuals. This not only undermines the rule of law but also shakes public confidence in the justice system.
NAPA questions why the investigation has not been handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), especially when there is widespread public demand for an impartial and transparent probe. In cases where political influence is suspected, an independent investigation becomes essential to ensure justice is not only done but also seen to be done.
The fact that a life has been lost in this case makes it even more critical for authorities to act with complete fairness and seriousness. Any perception of leniency or bias sends a dangerous message to society and weakens faith in democratic institutions.
NAPA urges the Punjab Government to immediately transfer the investigation to the CBI and ensure that no individual, regardless of their political position, is above the law. Accountability and transparency
