NAPA Strongly Objects to the Naming of “Veer Bal Diwas” in Memory of Sahibzade

The North American Punjabi Association (NAPA) has strongly objected to the naming of “Veer Bal Diwas” in memory of the Sahibzade, stating that the name is neither acceptable nor does it truly justify or reflect the unparalleled sacrifice for which this commemoration was announced.

In a statement issued today, Chahal said that the Sahibzade of Guru Gobind Singh Ji are not merely symbols of childhood bravery but represent the highest ideals of faith, martyrdom, moral courage, and resistance against tyranny. “The supreme sacrifice of the Sahibzade cannot be reduced to a generic title that fails to capture the depth of their shaheedi and the spiritual foundation of their martyrdom,” he said.

He emphasised that the Sahibzade laid down their lives to uphold the principles of Sikhi, human dignity, and justice, and their sacrifice must be remembered in its true historical and religious context. “Any attempt to reframe or rename their legacy without proper understanding risks diluting its sanctity and hurting the sentiments of the Sikh community worldwide,” Chahal added.

The North American Punjabi Association further stressed that matters related to Sikh history and sacred figures require serious consultation with Sikh scholars, historians, religious institutions, and the global Sikh community. Decisions taken without consensus create confusion and unnecessary controversy, especially on issues of deep religious sensitivity.

Satnam Singh Chahal urged the concerned authorities to reconsider and review the naming and ensure that any form of commemoration genuinely honors the Sahibzade in accordance with Sikh traditions, values, and historical truth. He stated that remembrance should educate future generations about sacrifice, righteousness, and unwavering faith—rather than oversimplify a profound chapter of Sikh history.NAPA reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding Sikh heritage and called upon all stakeholders to approach such sensitive issues with respect, responsibility, and historical integrity.
