Peel Regional Police have arrested a Brampton man, Nirmal Singh, in connection with a stolen vehicle and trailer, following a dangerous police pursuit earlier this month.
On Sunday, December 21, a semi-trailer truck was reported stolen from a repair shop near East Drive and Torbram Road in Brampton. The following day, officers located Singh operating the stolen truck near Williams Parkway and Humberwest Parkway. The truck was hauling a trailer that had also been reported stolen from Halton Region during the weekend of December 20.
When officers attempted a traffic stop, Singh failed to comply and struck a fully marked police cruiser, causing significant damage. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. The stolen vehicle eventually became inoperable, at which point Singh fled on foot. Officers pursued and successfully apprehended him.
Nirmal Singh, 42, faces multiple criminal charges under the Criminal Code of Canada, including:
-
Possession of Property Obtained by Crime (x5)
-
Flight from Police
-
Dangerous Operation of a Vehicle
-
Possession of Break-in Instruments
-
Possession of an Automobile Master Key
Further investigation revealed Singh is a Canada-wide suspended driver, resulting in additional charges for Operation While Prohibited (x8).
Singh is currently being held for a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton. The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities urge anyone with information related to the case to come forward.
