SAN JOSE, CA – Tens of thousands of cars that travel on the De La Cruz overpass at Highway 101 in Santa Clara will have an easier trip with a newly completed, wider overpass and reconfigured interchange.
VTA is officially opening the newly built interchange Friday, August 30 at 10:30 a.m., after working with multiple San Jose agencies and the State Department of Transportation (Caltrans) to make the upgrades.
Improvements include a wider highway overcrossing to accommodate 8 traffic lanes, and bike/ped paths that extend under the highway off-ramps to provide safer travel for bicyclists and pedestrians. As Santa Clara County’s Congestion Management Agency, VTA routinely builds transportation infrastructure like highway interchanges.
News media is encouraged to attend the opening event. Guests include:
- VTA Board Chair and Santa Clara Supervisor Cindy Chavez
- Santa Clara Mayor Lisa Gillmor
- Caltrans District Four Director Dina El-Tawansy
- California Transportation Commission Chair Carl Guardino.
