Fremont, CA / Chandigarh – The North American Punjabi Association (NAPA), under the leadership of Executive Director Satnam Singh Chahal, has expressed deep concern over the ongoing flood crisis in Punjab, where lakhs of people are suffering due to widespread devastation. From Hoshiarpur to Kapurthala, Fazilka to Ferozepur, Gurdaspur to Tarn Taran, rivers have breached, embankments have broken, families have been displaced, and farmers’ fields have been destroyed.
Mr. Chahal stated that this tragedy is not just a natural disaster but a humanitarian crisis, and it is shocking that the Punjab Government, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and the AAP administration, has failed to provide adequate damage control and relief measures. “Punjab is drowning in floods and in the failure of governance. The absence of timely rescue operations, rehabilitation measures, and compensation packages is nothing less than abandoning the people of Punjab in their darkest hour,” he said.
NAPA demanded that the Government immediately organize large-scale rescue operations, relief camps, and medical assistance, while ensuring fair and timely compensation to farmers and displaced families. “Punjabiyat teaches us to stand united in such times of suffering. The State must rise above politics and extend every possible support to its people. The people of Punjab cannot be left to struggle alone,” added Chahal.
NAPA has also appealed to diaspora Punjabis worldwide to step forward with humanitarian assistance, while urging the Punjab Government to coordinate with voluntary organizations for efficient delivery of relief and rehabilitation.
