Brahmpura to AAP: This Is Punjab, Not a Stage for Political Games

Tarn Taran – In response to the current Punjab Budget for the financial year 2025-26, Ravinder Singh Brahmpura, Vice President of the Shiromani Akali Dal and former MLA from the Khadoor Sahib constituency, has vehemently condemned the budget as a blatant disregard for the needs of the common people.
Despite the grand proclamations made by Finance Minister Harpal Cheema, the reality of this budget is starkly disappointing. It is unfathomable that in a time of economic turmoil and rising prices, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government has failed to allocate any funds for essential monthly grants to support the women of Punjab – a group that has been overwhelmingly affected by the ongoing crises. This omission exemplifies the government’s complete disconnect from the struggles of ordinary citizens.
Brahmpura stated, “The 2025-26 budget is nothing more than a collection of hollow promises and vague priorities. Labeling it a ‘futuristic’ budget while ignoring the pressing needs of the people is a disservice to the very constituents that elected this government. Where is the support for the women who maintain our households amidst rising costs of living? The absence of a direct financial aid mechanism speaks volumes about the priorities of the AAP.”
Moreover, the focus on drug control and public sectors cannot obscure the broader failures of the AAP government in addressing the day-to-day challenges facing the people of Punjab. While steps like a ‘drug census’ may appear proactive, they are merely a facade that conceals the administration’s inability to implement actionable solutions. The Punjab people deserves tangible measures and not superficial gestures.
Brahmpura further emphasized, “As we stand at this crucial juncture, the Punjab government must introspect on its efficacy in governance. The empty promises of fiscal consolidation and performance metrics can offer no comfort to families struggling to make ends meet. This budget fails to inspire hope or provide relief; instead, it highlights a worrying trend of neglect by the AAP.”
The Shiromani Akali Dal calls upon the AAP government to reevaluate its approach and prioritize the welfare of its citizens. Punjab deserves a budget that truly reflects the needs and aspirations of its people, rather than a mere exercise in political posturing
