Article 25B Change Vital for Sikhs, States Brahmpura

Tarn Taran – Ravinder Singh Brahmpura, the Vice President of Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and former MLA from Khadoor Sahib constituency in Punjab, has issued a statement condemning the BJP-led Modi government’s divisive politics. In his statement, Brahmpura highlighted the BJP’s strategy of division which he claims is rooted in a policy of ‘divide and rule’.
“BJP’s politics is deeply entrenched in fostering division through religion, aiming to polarize communities for electoral gains,” Brahmpura stated. He criticized the BJP for its approach which he believes undermines the unity and harmony of the nation.
Particularly, Brahmpura voiced his concerns over the recent Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2025. “This bill is a clear attempt by the BJP to seize control over minority assets under the guise of management reforms,” he remarked. He pointed out the strategic timing of the bill, suggesting it was influenced by upcoming elections in regions like Uttar Pradesh, which holds a significant portion of Waqf land.
Brahmpura also questioned the BJP’s sincerity towards minority welfare, suggesting that if the government truly cared, it would address issues like the amendment of Article 25B of the Constitution to better recognize the Sikh community’s distinct identity. “We are Sikhs, not Hindus, yet our identity is often overlooked in legislative matters,” he emphasized.
He further criticized the BJP for its lack of representation from minority communities in key decision-making bodies, challenging them to demonstrate inclusivity by appointing members from minority groups to significant positions, such as the Ram Temple Trust.
Brahmpura concluded his statement by accusing the BJP of practicing ‘bulldozer politics’, a term he used to describe the forceful and divisive governance style of the BJP, which he believes aims at fragmenting minority communities further. “The BJP’s history of dividing communities, whether through religion or other means, is well documented and this bill is just another chapter in that narrative,” he added
