Apart from this, criticism was leveled at the opposition parties’ politics for their desire to divide the state into pieces on this occasion. While addressing the congregation at Chohla Sahib Gurudwara Patshahi Panjvi on the occasion of Baisakhi, Brahmpura took a stand against the BJP’s ‘divide and rule’ strategy, casting doubt on the sincerity of their support for the Sikh community. He pointedly asked, “If the BJP genuinely supports Sikhs, why doesn’t it urge Prime Minister Narendra Modi to amend Article 25(b) of the Constitution to recognize the distinct identity of Sikhs?” Furthermore, he raised critical concerns regarding the prolonged imprisonment of Sikh detainees, known as Bandi Singhs, who have served beyond their sentence terms, questioning, “What identity does the BJP wish to project for Sikhs globally? Alternatively, Brahmpura also condemned the Bhagwant Mann government of the Aam Aadmi Party leading the state for failing in every field.
Brahmpura also brought attention to Jakhar’s association with the controversial figure, the self-styled Godman Gurmeet Ram Rahim, whom the BJP government has repeatedly granted parole, thereby offending Sikh sentiments. He questioned, “When the regional party of Punjab speaks about the rights of its state, why does the BJP feel uncomfortable? Alternatively, Brahmpura also condemned the Bhagwant Mann government of the Aam Aadmi Party leading the state for failing in every field.
Highlighting broader concerns, Brahmpura accused the BJP of pursuing a policy aimed at the marginalization of minority communities. He criticized Jakhar for not understanding the global depreciation of the Indian rupee under the so-called ‘Vishav Guru’ leadership. Additionally, he drew parallels between the BJP’s current actions and the historical atrocities committed by Congress, their former ally, particularly referencing the attack on Sri Akal Takht Sahib and the Sikh genocide.
Brahmpura expressed concerns over the BJP’s attempts to unlawfully control Sikh institutions, citing examples from Takht Sri Hazoor Sahib Nanded and the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee of Haryana. He warned that alliances with BJP lead to the destruction of regional parties, describing such partnerships as a “black spot” that cannot be cleansed.
He emphasized that the BJP engages in politics that fosters communal division and religious discord. Concluding his statement, Brahmpura reiterated that Sukhbir Singh Badal, as the President of Shiromani Akali Dal, will continue to advocate for the rights of the Panth, Punjab, and Punjabiyat, regardless of the personal sacrifices required. He affirmed that the Shiromani Akali Dal remains steadfast in its principles and will not compromise on its foundational values.
