In a statement released to the media, Brahmpura detailed the contents of his letter to the Governor, emphasizing how MLA Lalpura is allegedly flouting legal norms by misusing his power. Highlighting a major incident, Brahmpura revealed that the trouble began when the then-SSP of Tarn Taran, Gurmeet Singh Chauhan, apprehended MLA Lalpura’s brother-in-law in connection with a large-scale illegal sand mining operation. Rather than allowing justice to take its course, Brahmpura alleged that the MLA misused his influence to orchestrate the transfer of the diligent SSP and ensure the suspension of officials involved in the crackdown—actions amounting to obstruction of justice for personal gain.
“It is deeply regrettable that the Punjab government has yet to release the report demanded by the then Governor, Sh. Banwarilal Purohit, regarding this matter, emboldening the wrongdoers,” said Brahmpura.
Citing another major incident from the Khadoor Sahib legislative constituency, Brahmpura referred to the brutal murder of Punjab Police Sub-Inspector Charanjit Singh in the village of Kot Mohammad Khan. He made the serious allegation that MLA Lalpura harbored the alleged murderers at his own residence and went as far as to hold press briefings in their defense—actions that directly constitute sheltering criminals and hindering the course of justice.
Brahmpura further stated, “When Amritsar Rural Police apprehended one of the accused in the sub-inspector’s murder, who is reportedly a close associate of MLA Lalpura, a drone and illegal weapons were recovered from his possession. This exposes a dangerous cross-border arms smuggling network, posing a direct threat to our national security.”
Strongly criticizing the current AAP government, Brahmpura stated that MLA Lalpura, leveraging his position within the ruling party, is making every effort to shield the accused and interfere with police investigations. His recent public accusations targeting the current Tarn Taran SSP for allegedly filing false cases is, according to Brahmpura, a deliberate attempt to intimidate the police and derail vital probes.
Brahmpura has urgently appealed to the Governor to:
> 1. Immediately direct a high-level, impartial investigation into the illegal sand mining incident and the circumstances behind the transfer of the honest SSP, and ensure the swift release of the report requested by the former Governor.
> 2. Order a comprehensive inquiry into the alleged involvement of MLA Manjinder Singh Lalpura in sheltering and protecting those accused in the murder of Sub-Inspector Charanjit Singh.
> 3. In the interest of national security, mandate a central agency-led investigation into the cross-border arms smuggling ring linked to MLA Lalpura’s associates.
“If such crimes, committed under the intoxication of power, are not checked, the rule of law in Punjab will cease to exist. The Shiani Akali Dal remains steadfast in its commitment to the safety of the people of Punjab and the supremacy of the law, and will continue to expose the anti-people policies of the AAP government,” Brahmpura concluded, expressing confidence that the Governor will acknowledge the urgency of the matter and initiate timely action.
