Based on the daily harassment of farmers, Punjabis and students, it can be clearly said that the government has become heartless towards the interests of farmers. They have failed to ensure that farmers get the right price for their maize, and have also failed to stop the maize coming from other states for sale. This is not something that the current AAP government can be seen to have succeeded in. Under their government, Punjab and Punjabis are being harmed, which has become a matter of concern for us today and tomorrow.
Targeting the AAP government, Jhinjar said, “The non-interference of the AAP government led by Bhagwant Mann in the maize issue directly indicates that they do not care about any farmer. The promises made by them before coming to power were false and useless. Farmers are getting disappointed today – because they are not getting a fair price for their crops, nor are there any government schemes that are in favor of the farmer brothers. Punjab’s agriculture is not profitable today because of their policies, but the Aam Aadmi Party cabinet has nothing to do with these problems.”
Raising questions on the current government, Jhinjar said, “There are not one or two questions but many that arise, why is there no ban on maize coming from outside the state? Why didn’t the government give assurance to the farmers in advance? Why are our farmers not getting the right price for maize? Why are you ignoring our farmers instead of helping them?”
Apart from this, on the recent disregard of farmers’ questions by Agriculture Minister Gurmeet Singh Khudiyan, Jhinjar said, “Instead of fulfilling the legitimate demands of the farmers, their government is telling them to join politics and get their votes and do the work themselves, which is very shameful!”
Jhinjar also said that we should not answer these questions because the condition of Punjab’s farmers has already deteriorated. In such a situation, if there is still a delay in the solution, the situation may lead to increased farmer suicides, which will prove unfortunate for Punjab. Therefore, it is necessary that maize should be purchased at MSP and a ban should be imposed on maize coming from outside states for sale in Punjab.
