Ghanaur-President of Youth Akali Dal and member of the Shiromani Akali Dal Core Committee, Sarabjeet Singh Jhinjer, today visited the flood-affected villages of Ghanaur constituency. He said that even after the devastating floods of 2023, the Punjab Government failed to learn any lesson. Two years have passed, yet no embankment was constructed on the Ghaggar river, due to which once again more than a dozen villages have been hit hard.
Jhinjer stated that nearly 24 villages in Ghanaur have been impacted, with over 13 villages suffering severe damage to homes. “After visiting these villages and seeing the condition of the victims, my heart was deeply pained,” he said.
Sarabjeet Singh Jhinjer directly accused the governments, saying: “The Punjab Government and Delhi’s drama master Kejriwal have only given false promises to Punjab, but in reality, no victim has been heard on the ground.”
He added: “The Ghaggar issue needed work, not politics. But the present government has neither prepared a long-term strategy nor made permanent arrangements.”
He further informed that under the leadership of Shiromani Akali Dal President Shri Sukhbir Singh Badal, immediate relief in the form of tarpaulins, ration and other essentials was distributed in villages Jand Mangoli, Sanjarpur, Kami Khurd and others.
Taking a dig at the Chief Minister, Jhinjer said: “Bhagwant Mann Sahib ji, recently you enacted a scripted drama to show sympathy with one of your own party women leaders, but was that sympathy only for the camera? If you wish to see real suffering, please come to Jand Mangoli village. In this village of nearly 100 homes, recent floods brought 5 feet of water inside houses. These houses were built by villagers with years of hard labour under MGNREGA. Cracks have appeared in the walls and women are crying in despair. Rise above political shows and provide immediate help to the affected families.”
Jhinjer emphasized that Shiromani Akali Dal President Sukhbir Singh Badal has always stood for the welfare of people. During natural calamities, he has always ensured relief, supplies, food, and shelter for affected families, not limiting himself to statements but reaching the ground to help.
He demanded urgent construction of the embankment and immediate compensation for flood victims. Issuing a warning, he said that if the Punjab Government fails to act, Shiromani Akali Dal will launch a massive state-wide agitation. “Protecting people’s rights is our duty, and until the flood victims get justice, we will not remain silent,” Jhinjer declared.
