Center-state government and all Punjabis come forward to help flood victims: Sant Baba Darshan Singh Tahla Sahib

Ajnala/Amritsar – Chief Sevak Sant Baba Darshan Singh Tahla Sahib of Gurudwara Sri Tahla Sahib, Chabba, the martyrdom site of Amar Shaheed Baba Deep Singh Ji, said that due to the collective efforts of the Sangat, the havoc of floods has stopped to a large extent, but now the central and state governments should jointly fulfill their responsibility in rehabilitating the flood victims.
Baba Darshan Singh reached the border village of Ghonewal today with an anchor in the service run by Saint Baba Jagir Singh and Saint Baba Satnam Singh Kar Seva Guru Ke Bagh to fill the big breach in Dhussi Dam. He also served langar to the Sangat and participated in the car service.
He said that floods have caused heavy damage to crops, livestock, residential buildings and agricultural implements. In this context, he said that the state government’s announcement of relaxation of sand extraction from fields due to floods is welcome, but the loans of flood-affected farmers should also be waived off. He demanded that the government should give compensation of Rs 50,000 per acre to the farmers for crop loss, adequate compensation to the farm labourers, separate compensation to the families and animals of the deceased, make the fields cultivable again, and also provide seeds, fertilizers and other facilities for farming.
Baba Darshan Singh praised the service of Sant Baba Satnam Singh and Sant Baba Jagir Singh and appealed to the Sangat to give more support. Even today, a large number of Sangats were engaged in the service of filling the pits by bringing earthen trolleys.
He said that this tragedy can be overcome only by joint efforts of governments and society. Many dignitaries including President Bhai Kashmir Singh, Manager Bhai Randeep Singh, Gyani Surta Singh, Sukhwinder Singh Sukh Tera, Veer Indrajit Singh, Bhai Jasbir Singh Gora, Bhai Jagtar Singh, Bhai Gursevak Singh, Baba Budh Singh Ji (Gurdwara Shri Angitha Sahib, Nikke Ghumna) and Advocate Lokdeep Singh were present on this occasion.
