Phagwara(Punjab Outlook Bureau)The general body meeting of Ramgarhia College Old Students Association(RCOSA),Phagwara unanimously elected IAS(Retd.) bureaucrat Balbir Singh Sudan, former Home Secretary Punjab, as its new President.RCOSA General Secretary Sarabjit Singh Bhatty today informed that the meeting was held in local City Club yesterday and it was presided over by SP Sethi of Fine Switchgears.The meeting adopted a unanimous resolution lauding the work of SP Sethi during his two year tenure of Presidentship.
Meeting also authorized Sudan to constitute new executive committee. Since the term of three office-bearers is three year as per RCOSA constitution, Sarabjit Singh Bhatty, Jagdish Mahay and Prof Jaswant Singh Gandam will continue to be General Secretary, Finance and Media Secretaries respectively, he said.Wedded to encourage and help meritorious and needy students of their alma mater, RCOSA declared to award Rs 50,000 scholarship to 5 such students.A cheque of the same amount was already sent to College Principal, he said.
Old teachers will be honored as had been the practice of the last two years.The 3rd annual mega-meet of RCOSA will be held in the month of February next year, he said.In his acceptance speech, the new President Balbir Singh Sudan spelt out his vision of RCOSA.Sharing it with members in his maiden address as President, Sudan said he wanted to make RCOSA more vibrant, vivid and effective body, to encourage and honor those students who bring laurels to the college in academic, sports and other activities, help the needy, deserving and meritorious students, especially girls, strengthen the committee for identification and finalization of list of such students, honor our respected teachers, publish RCOSA Souvenir having information of members and their families, hold regular meetings at least after 3/4 months in order to refresh/relive the old memories and cement emotional bonds, start drive for enrolment of new members, initiate more steps for college welfare.
Besides the above-mentioned office-bearers, others who were present included Prof Ashok Chadha, Malkiat Singh Raghbotra, Prem Pal Pabbi, Hakumat Rai, Ram Lubhaya, Gian Singh, Vishwa Mitter Sharma, Manoj Kumar Midha.
