Punjabis are being shaken up by the prospect of migration.-Sukhpal Singh Gill Abyana Kalan

The desire to migrate has increased among Punjabis to the extent that a gardener feels when he sees trees laden with fruits on the lawn. When someone shakes a laden tree, all the ripe and unripe ones fall off. In the same way, Western countries have started to encourage Punjabis to migrate. This has started a period of doubts and worries. Although Punjabis had started going to foreign countries in 1950 itself, it also had the opposite effect that what was the use of the sacrifices for the country’s independence if they had to run after the British. For the last two and a half to three decades, Punjabis have been becoming migrants in droves. The biggest reason for this is unemployment, which was 8.2 percent in 2019. Apart from this, job insecurity and lack of skills also became the reason for migration. The way ITIs were meant to provide employment by creating skills. These institutions also failed to deliver results and were killed by circumstances. The then government of Punjab opened skill centers, but they too could not adopt any approach. The situation remained there. The youth started becoming unstable and helpless. It is unsuccessful to wake up after the passage of time. Now Punjab is looking for progress and the glory of old age homes.
They lost their youth by running ahead of each other for migration. They also played a negative role in forgetting culture, education and Punjabi culture. Vidhata Singh said that Punjabi love with arrows is no longer love, “I ask God for my desires every day, my heart’s desire comes true, I was born and raised in this homeland, my destiny comes true in the homeland itself”
The then Vice Chancellor of Punjabi University Patiala, Mr. Joginder Singh Pawar, had long ago suggested creating an employment guarantee to stop the foreign trend of Punjabis. This too has been completely ignored or ignored. The surprise increases when the figure comes that every year 20 thousand Punjabis migrate illegally. 25 lakh Punjabi population is living abroad. 1.3 of the population of Canada is Punjabi. In America, 44.60, in Canada 16.89, in Australia 4.96, in England 17.64 are Punjabi. The same is true in other European countries. The foreign trend of Punjabis is continuing at a rapid pace. They are leaving their country, language, region and profession through self-exile.
According to the report of Punjab Agricultural University Ludhiana, Punjabis have incurred a debt of 14342 crores in the race to go abroad. Danger to girls and robbery by agents are also part of this series. In 2024, 1335678 Indian students went to study abroad. The highest number of 42700 students went to Canada. 37763 students went to America. Similarly, they went to other countries. Many are even crushed in the mill of migration, many do not even live without a house. Punjabis become players of dangers even by breaking the rules. This phenomenon has forced those countries to think about migration.
Western countries have seemingly unanimously shaken up the immigrants from other countries through Punjabis. Time will tell what will happen next. The Trump card has been played again in America, he considers immigration to be bad. Its effects are visible even today in the last term. Australia has also become very strict. New Zealand is also getting better after a while. In England and Germany, you cannot do without marriage. These countries are also making rules about taking parents. Talking about Canada, the Trudeau factor is also at stake. Relations between the two countries have also deteriorated. Canada is making new and different policies for its country. Today, millions of students and refugees are waiting for their turn in Western countries. Their future is also uncertain. Behind the shake-up that Punjabis have faced are also their own habits. There, drugs, visa misuse, incidents and thieves’ leaders have also become the cause of the shake-up. Mark Miller’s statements are haunting here and there. Canada has made several amendments to its voice policies, which will affect more Punjabis. Multiple visas have been limited. Strict rules have been made for permanent residence. Canada will give priority to its citizens in skills. Spouses with short courses will not be able to get visas. IELTS has been made a condition before work permits. GIC has been increased from 10000 to 20675 dollars. Such shocking phenomena have pushed Punjabis towards further suffering. With diplomatic relations, the Indian government needs to wake up immediately and seize the opportunity so that Western countries can be asked for soft treatment. By recognizing the stance and vision of countries, Punjabis should also take a dual path so that future worries can be relieved.
