Strict action must be taken immediately against the dealers who are openly selling drugs : YAD President

Fatehgarh Sahib-Youth Akali Dal President and Shiromani Akali Dal Core Committee member Sarabjeet Singh Jhinjer today expressed deep concern over the havoc being caused by the growing drug menace in Punjab. He said that despite the tall claims of the government, the ground reality is extremely painful and alarming.

Citing a shocking incident from his own village Jhinjer, Sarabjeet Singh Jhinjer said that a mother lost her son and a 15-year-old boy lost his father to drugs. The youth’s body was found in the bushes near the cattle market at Sadhu Garh, with syringes recovered from the spot. “Even after 24 hours, no action has been taken, no FIR has been registered. This exposes the complete failure of the system,” he said.

Jhinjer condemned Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann for declaring Fatehgarh Sahib a “drug-free district” while young lives are still being lost. “If the district is drug-free, then how did a young man in my village die due to drugs? This is a clear betrayal of Punjab’s people. Stop playing with lives, stop making false claims. If the government continues this dishonesty, we will not tolerate it,” he warned.

Demanding a thorough investigation, Sarabjeet Singh Jhinjer said it must be found where these drugs are coming from and who the dealers are supplying them to the youth. “Those selling drugs right under the government’s nose must face strict and immediate action,” he asserted.

He further said that drugs have become a poisonous epidemic in every household of Punjab. “Every week a youngster dies. These are not just drug-related deaths — they are the deaths of the hopes of Punjab’s future generations. When a 15-year-old child spends the night searching for his father, it is not just the tragedy of one family, it is proof of the total failure of government policies,” he remarked.

Concluding his statement, Sarabjeet Singh Jhinjer gave a clarion call: “We must not only mourn, we must speak out. It is the responsibility of every youth, every parent, every village panchayat, every school and college to raise their voice against drugs. Together, let us save Punjab from this deadly plague.”
