Chandigarh(By Amrit Pal Sidhu) Surabhi Malik, an accomplished 2012-batch IAS officer of the Punjab cadre, has been appointed as Director in the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs. Her appointment has been approved for tenure of five years under the central staffing scheme, effective from the date she assumes charge of the post or until further orders are issued.
This new role marks another milestone in the illustrious career of Surabhi Malik, who has consistently demonstrated her dedication and competence in various administrative positions. Known for her exceptional work ethic and professionalism, Malik has held several significant roles within Punjab’s administrative framework.
Notably, she made history by becoming the first woman to serve as Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Ludhiana, Punjab’s largest district. Her management in Ludhiana was preceded by an extensive record of service in the region. In 2017, she served as the Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development) and had earlier held the position of Additional Commissioner in the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation.
Her administrative acumen extends beyond Ludhiana. Surabhi Malik has served as DC of Fatehgarh Sahib, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Rupnagar, and Sub-Divisional Magistrate of Nangal. Additionally, she has held key roles as Chairperson of the Patiala Improvement Trust and Chief Administrator of the Patiala Development Authority.
Academically, Surabhi Malik’s credentials are equally impressive. She holds a Master’s degree in Economics from the London School of Economics, earned through the prestigious Commonwealth Scholarship program from 2007 to 2009. Her educational background has undoubtedly contributed to her analytical and strategic approach to governance.
