FBI IC3 Report Reveals Surge in International Cybercrime Complaints in 2024

Washington, D.C. — The FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3) has released its latest figures for 2024, revealing that citizens from more than 200 countries submitted complaints about cybercrimes. Among the top 20 countries with the highest number of complaints, the United Kingdom led the list with a staggering 102,692 submissions.

Canada followed with 6,951 complaints, while India reported 4,189 incidents. France, Germany, and Brazil also featured prominently, each registering more than 1,400 complaints. Other nations in the top tier include the Philippines (1,790), Australia (1,533), and Japan (1,492), highlighting the global spread and increasing sophistication of cyber threats.

Smaller, yet significant, numbers were recorded from countries such as Sweden (732), China (651), and Spain (639), indicating that no region is immune to the growing challenge of cybercrime.

Beyond just the complaints, IC3 also tracked transactional data revealing where victims were being instructed to send funds. The top international destinations for fraudulent wire transfers in 2024 were Hong Kong, Vietnam, and Mexico, each handling thousands of illicit transactions. India and China also appeared on this list, indicating that both countries are not only reporting cybercrime but are also key locations in the movement of fraudulent funds.

The data underscores the critical need for international cooperation and increased cybersecurity awareness across borders. The FBI continues to encourage individuals and businesses worldwide to report cybercrime incidents to IC3 and to remain vigilant against phishing, scams, and other digital threats.
