NAPA Highlights 261 Indian-Origin Leaders Elected to Foreign Governments

The North American Punjabi Association (NAPA) has brought attention to the growing global influence of the Indian diaspora, with 261 Indian-origin elected representatives currently serving in governments across 29 countries.

The largest representation is in Mauritius (45), followed by Guyana (33) and the United Kingdom (31). Strong numbers are also recorded in France (24), Suriname (21), Trinidad & Tobago (18), Fiji (17), and Malaysia (17). Nations such as South Africa (12) and the United States (6) further reflect the diaspora’s rising political engagement.

Satnam Singh Chahal, Executive Director of NAPA, stated:

“The presence of 261 elected leaders of Indian origin across the world is a matter of great pride. It not only reflects the hard work and commitment of our diaspora communities but also strengthens India’s image and soft power globally. These leaders serve as vital bridges of understanding and cooperation between India and their adopted homelands.”

NAPA emphasized that the active role of the diaspora in democratic processes abroad showcases their dedication to civic responsibility and their contribution toward shaping inclusive, multicultural societies.
