UK MP Tanmanjeet Singh Dhesi Hosts French Military Students at Westminster, Highlights Global Security Cooperation

UK Member of Parliament Tanmanjeet Singh Dhesi once again hosted a delegation of students from France’s prestigious École de Guerre (War College) at the UK Parliament, marking another year of meaningful academic and strategic exchange. The visit featured an engaging question-and-answer session that focused on parliamentary democracy, defence oversight, and evolving global security challenges.

During the interaction, MP Dhesi—who serves on the influential UK Defence Select Committee—shared insights into the committee’s role in scrutinising defence policy, military preparedness, and international security commitments. Students actively questioned him on how democratic institutions balance national security with accountability, reflecting a strong interest in Britain’s defence governance model.

A significant portion of the discussion centred on global security dynamics, including NATO cooperation, geopolitical instability, and emerging threats such as cyber warfare and hybrid conflicts. MP Dhesi emphasised that modern security challenges transcend national borders and require sustained international collaboration.

Highlighting the importance of bilateral ties, Dhesi underscored the France–UK strategic partnership, describing it as a cornerstone of European and transatlantic security. He noted that cooperation between the two nations—particularly in defence, intelligence sharing, and joint military initiatives—remains crucial amid ongoing global uncertainties.

“The France–UK relationship is not just historic, but essential for the future of collective security,” Dhesi conveyed during the session, stressing the value of dialogue between future military leaders and elected representatives.

The visit reaffirmed Parliament’s role as a platform for international engagement and knowledge exchange, while also reflecting MP Dhesi’s continued commitment to fostering global understanding, democratic values, and strong defence partnerships.
