UK MPs Preet Kaur Gill and Tanmanjeet Singh Dhesi Meet Canadian Speaker to Strengthen Trade and Democratic Ties

LONDON/OTTAWA – UK Labour MPs Preet Kaur Gill and Tanmanjeet Singh Dhesi met with the Speaker of the House of Commons of Canada, Francis Scarpaleggia, and a cross-party group of Canadian MPs to discuss deepening cooperation between the two nations.

The meeting, hosted by Matt Western MP, Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG), focused on strengthening trade links, fostering closer economic collaboration, and reaffirming the shared commitment of both countries to uphold democratic values worldwide.

Preet Kaur Gill, the UK’s first female Sikh MP, and Tanmanjeet Singh Dhesi, the first turban-wearing Sikh MP in Britain, emphasized the importance of continued engagement between the UK and Canada—two nations bound by common values, historic ties, and vibrant diaspora communities.

Both MPs expressed appreciation for the warm reception and productive dialogue, highlighting that such meetings play a crucial role in advancing international understanding and creating new avenues for partnership in trade, education, and defence cooperation.
