When will the politics of promises end?” – International Panthic Dal issues direct challenge to SGPC President Dhami

London/UK:  – International Panthic Dal UK has raised serious questions about the current state of the Sikh Panth and the performance of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) and issued a direct challenge to its president Harjinder Singh Dhami. The organisation has said that the Sangat around the world is demanding answers today – there have been many declarations, but where is the implementation?
In a joint statement issued by the party’s president Raghveer Singh, international chief organizer Bhai Paramjit Singh Dhadi, public secretary and chief spokesperson Bhai Kaptan Singh, senior vice president Bhai Raghbir Singh Biha and Bhai Raghbir Singh Malri, the party reminded that the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee had announced the formation of an 11-member committee for the release of the imprisoned Sikhs, and a date for a big protest in Delhi had also been set. But the entire program was canceled on the spot. The organization asked – where is that committee? Why was the report not made public? Isn’t this a direct violation of the promise made to the Panth?
Citing a message issued from Akal Takht Sahib on December 2, 2024, the party said that it was the moral responsibility of the SGPC and its president to implement the orders of the five Singh Sahibs. The strategy of resignations and retreat is tantamount to leaving the Panthic Hukamnamas incomplete.
The committee had announced to bring a new system for the appointment and retirement of Jathedars. A sub-committee was formed, but till date no action has been taken. Along with this, the party has also sought clarity on the issue of giving a 72-hour ultimatum to Giani Raghbir Singh – if an ultimatum was given, then the truth should be told to the Panth in the meeting on the 24th.
The party also raised the question of whether the “black bags of evidence” given by the Punjab government and Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to the secretariat have really been opened? If so, what was in them? When will this evidence be placed before the Panth?
Citing allegations levelled by former Jathedar Giani Ranjit Singh, the party said that SGPC lands have been allegedly given to the relatives of Badal family and Akali leaders at low rates. When in Punjab there is usually no contract less than Rs 50 thousand per acre, then at what price were SGPC lands given? The complete information should be made public.
Why is there a reluctance to form an independent inquiry committee into the administrative scams and major allegations leveled against the SGPC? Calling critics “agents of the government” cannot be a way to avoid accountability.
Even after the orders of Akal Takht, there has been no formal progress regarding the Sikhs’ own media channel. Along with this, the fact that SGPC elections have not been held for the last 11 years is a serious democratic issue. If by-elections can be held in other constitutional institutions, then why not in SGPC?
Along with this, the International Panthic Dal UK has also demanded the immediate publicization of the report of the committee regarding the imprisoned Singhs, the disclosure of complete information about the SGPC land contracts, the presentation of the evidence in the “black bags” before the Panth, the formation of an independent investigation committee, the implementation of the Panthic consensus system for the appointment of Jathedars, and the early holding of SGPC elections.

“When will the politics of promises end?” – Direct challenge to SGPC President Dhami from International Panthak Dal UK
London/UK: February 20 – The International Panthak Dal UK has issued a direct challenge to its president Harjinder Singh Dhami, raising serious questions on the current state of the Sikh Panth and the functioning of the Shiromani Gurdwara Management Committee (SGPC). The organization said that दुनिय बहर की संगत अज जाव भाव रही है—।
In a joint statement issued by Dal President Raghveer Singh, International Chief Organizer Bhai Paramjit Singh Dhadi, General Secretary and Chief Spokesman Bhai Kaptan Singh, Senior Vice President Bhai Raghbir Singh Biha and Bhai Raghbir Singh Maldi, it was said that the SGPC had announced the formation of an 11-member committee for the release of the imprisoned Sikhs and the date of the big demonstration in Delhi was also fixed. But the entire program was canceled on the spot. The organization raised the question – where is that committee? Why was his report not made public? Is this not a direct conflict with the creed?
Citing a message issued by Shri Akal Takht Sahib on 2 December 2024, the party said that it was the moral responsibility of the SGPC and its chairman to implement the orders of the Panch Singh Sahibans. Adopting a strategy of resignations and retreats is tantamount to leaving sectarian mandates unfulfilled.
The committee announced a new system for appointment and dismissal of Jathedars. A sub-committee was also formed, but no concrete action has been taken till date. Along with this, clarity has also been sought on the issue of giving 72 hours ultimatum to Gyani Raghbir Singh – if the ultimatum was given, then the truth should be told to the Panth in the meeting on 24th.
The party also raised the question whether the “black bags of evidence” given by the Punjab government and Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann in the secretariat have actually been opened? If opened, what was there in them? When will these proofs be put before the cult?
Referring to allegations leveled by former Jathedar Gyani Ranjit Singh, the party said that SGPC lands were allegedly leased to the Badal family and relatives of Akali leaders at low rates. When in Punjab the contract is not usually less than 50 thousand rupees per acre, at what rate were the lands of SGPC given? Full information should be made public.
Why is it being avoided to form an independent investigation committee into administrative scams and serious allegations against SGPC? Calling critics “agents of governments” cannot be a way of avoiding accountability.
Despite the orders of the Akal Takht, there was no concrete initiative for the Sikhs to have their own media channel. Also, non-election of SGPC for the last 11 years is a serious democratic issue. If by-elections can be held in other constitutional institutions, why not in SGPC?
The International Panthak Dal UK has demanded that the report of the committee related to the Sikh prisoners should be made public immediately, full details of the SGPC’s land deals should be brought out, the evidence in the “black bags” should be placed before the panth, an independent inquiry committee should be formed, the panthak consensus system should be implemented for the appointment of Jathedars and the SGPC elections should be held soon.
