Heavy Rains Trigger Water Release in Ujh River, Gurdaspur District on High Alert

Gurdaspur: As heavy rainfall continues to lash the hilly regions, rivers and canals in Gurdaspur district have swelled, prompting authorities to release a significant volume of water in the Ujh river. Today, approximately 171,797 cusecs of water were discharged, with an additional 2 lakh cusecs of water expected to be released later in the day.

Deputy Commissioner Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal issued a statement, urging residents residing near the Ujh and Ravi rivers to exercise utmost caution and avoid venturing into the flood-affected areas. The released water from the Ujh river is predicted to merge with the Ravi River near Makura Pattan at 8:00 am today, and two hours later, it is expected to reach Dharamkot Patan and Ghonewal areas, eventually flowing into Dera Baba Nanak.

The safety of the residents and their livestock is of utmost importance, and authorities have advised people to relocate their animals to secure areas. The continuous monitoring of water levels in the rivers and canals remains a priority for the district administration, with all necessary precautions being implemented to mitigate any potential risks.
