Sirsa welcomes Australia Supreme Court’s order overturning law banning Sikh religious kakars
New Delhi: BJP Sikh leader and former President of Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) Manjinder Singh Sirsa has welcomed order of Supreme Court Queensland Australia overturning law banning Sikh religious kakars in the country.
It is worth mentioning here that this Supreme Court order has come six years after Manjinder Singh Sirsa had took up issue with then Indian External Affairs Ministers Mrs Sushma Swaraj about harassment being meted out to Sikh studens in Queenslands Australia.
In a statement released here today, Sirsa said that new order of Supreme Court has come as a major reprieve for Sikh baptised students.
He said that Supreme court in Australia has allowed sikh students to carry Kirpan in Queensland schools which was banned a few years ago. It was then we had met Sushma Swaraj ji and shared the issue. She had taken it up with her counterpart in Australian Govt. Even if she is not with us today; it’s her deeds and actions that has brought this favourable judgment in favour of Sikhs.
He congratulated Sikh community for the new order and expressed hope that more and more countries will allow such exemption to baptised Sikhs in view of their urgent religious necessity.
