Identify black sheeps in Punjab Police to eliminate Drug menace Says Satnam Singh Chahal

Satnam Singh Chahal executive director North American Punjabi Association (NAPA) expressed its serious concern about the Drug menace report released by The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Social Justice and Empowerment has expressed shock over the fact that the menace of drug addiction has been spreading fast among adults, young adults and even children in India. In a letter sent to Punjab Governor Sh Banwari Lal Prohit that Punjab has been grappling with the devastating effects of drug abuse for several years now. Despite various efforts made by the government, law enforcement agencies, and non-governmental organizations, the problem persists and continues to wreak havoc on the lives of countless individuals and families across the state. The drug epidemic has had a profoundly detrimental impact on the physical and mental health of our youth, the backbone of our society. Many promising young lives have been cut short or permanently damaged due to addiction, leading to unemployment, broken families, and a loss of productive potential for our state.

Furthermore, the widespread availability and consumption of drugs have fueled criminal activities, leading to an increase in violence and instability in certain regions. This not only affects the safety of our citizens but also deters potential investors and hampers the overall growth and development of Punjab.

Chahal urged the Governor to take bold and comprehensive actions to address this issue with utmost urgency.
To Provide adequate resources and training to law enforcement agencies to enhance their capacity to identify and apprehend drug traffickers and distributors. Unless Punjab Government will not identify the black sheep in the Police department the Drug menace cannot be eliminated. Chahal further said that Punjab Government should Invest in more rehabilitation and treatment centers to assist those struggling with addiction, helping them reintegrate into society as productive citizens. Implementation of community-based educational programs to raise awareness about the harmful effects of drugs and encourage a drug-free lifestyle. Added Chahal.

He further said the Punjab Government should also Establish collaborations with neighboring states to prevent drug smuggling across borders and create a united front against the drug trade.Focus on empowering the youth with education, skill development programs, and employment opportunities to divert their attention away from drugs. State Government should also Take stringent measures to eradicate drug cultivation and production within the state, ensuring that Punjab is not used as a source of drugs.

In this letter Chahal said that drug problem in Punjab requires a concerted effort from all stakeholders and requested His leadership and support to coordinate the necessary actions and ensure that the menace of drugs is eradicated from our society, leaving behind a bright and prosperous future for Punjab.

In his press release Chahal said It is time to try a new approach to the drug problem. Those who want to use drugs know where to get them. No law has yet been able to dissuade them. Legalize, regulate and tax drugs to the hilt. Spend the money that would have gone towards preventive laws on education, healthcare and rehabilitation added Chahal
