UK MP Dhesi Collaborates with Punjab Ministers to Boost Sports & Address NRI Concerns

Chandigarh: In a Significant Meeting, UK Member of Parliament Tanmanjeet Singh Dhesi engaged with Punjab Revenue Minister Brahm Shankar Jimpa and Sports Minister Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer, marking a crucial step towards fostering sports participation and addressing land dispute issues for non-resident Indians (NRIs).

The meeting, held in Chandigarh, also saw the presence of prominent personalities, including MP Dhesi’s uncle Paramjit Singh Raipur, an SGPC Member from Adampur, and his son Jugad Singh. Notably, Jagrup Singh Sekhwan, General Secretary of AAP, Chairman Gurdev Singh, and other senior figures were also in attendance, emphasizing the importance of this dialogue.

Sports Minister Meet Hayer highlighted a series of initiatives aimed at increasing sports involvement among Punjabis, with a specific focus on promoting top sportsmen and women. Recognizing MP Dhesi’s role as the president of the Gatka Federation UK for the past decade, he welcomed the MP’s request for further elevation of Punjabi sports, particularly Kabaddi and Gatka.

Notably, MP Dhesi didn’t limit his concerns to sports alone. He raised the critical issue of land disputes faced by NRIs, where their properties are unlawfully confiscated. The ministers gave their full attention to this concern and reiterated their commitment to addressing it comprehensively. They acknowledged the need to instill confidence among NRIs and create an environment conducive to increased investment.

Revenue Minister Gimpa went a step further by announcing a direct channel for addressing NRI land dispute cases. He introduced a dedicated government WhatsApp number, +91 94641-00168, where NRIs can send details of their issues. Assuring swift and appropriate action, he underscored the government’s commitment to resolving such disputes in a fair and efficient manner.
