Body of technician trapped under soil in Jalandhar retrieved from pit

Jalandhar: The body of the technician, who was buried under 80 feet of soil at the Delhi-Katra Expressway construction site on the Kartarpur-Kapurthala road here on Saturday, was retrieved today.

Suresh Kumar had got stuck under soil as the earth caved in on Saturday night. The rescue operation has been on since 8 pm on Saturday. Suresh, along with his colleague, Pawan, was trying to repair a defective machine when the accident took place.

Though the NDRF teams and district administration made all efforts to rescue him for over 40 hours, he could not be saved.

His body has been sent for postmortem examination at the civil hospital.

Sources said Suresh’s body had reportedly begun to decompose and he had died long before the NDRF rescue team reached him.

As per administration officials, the body was found at a depth of 70 feet.
