Jaya Verma Sinha Named First Woman Chairperson of the Railway Board

New Delhi:  Marking a historic moment in the annals of India’s railway history, Jaya Verma Sinha has been appointed as the first woman CEO and Chairperson of the Railway Board. This significant appointment comes as the government announced her designation on Thursday, where she will succeed Anil Kumar Lahoti.

Jaya Verma Sinha has been serving as the Member (Operations and Business Development) of the Railway Board, where she recently addressed the media regarding the intricate signaling system following a tragic train accident in Balasore, Odisha, which claimed the lives of about 300 people.

The appointment was officially confirmed through an order stating, “The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the appointment of Jaya Verma Sinha, Member (Operation and Business Development) as Chairperson and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Railway Board.” She is set to assume office on or after September 1, 2023, and her tenure will extend until August 31, 2024.
