Despite Modi’s appeal to Trudeau, a referendum was held in Canada in favor of Khalistan

Toronto: A large number of Sikhs participated in the Khalistani rally in Canada, despite Prime Minister Narendra Modi had asked his counterpart Justin Trudeau to stop alleged anti-India activities in his country.

In response to Modi’s demand, Justin Trudeau held a press conference yesterday saying that his country (Canada) will always protect the freedom of peaceful protest but also stop violence and always oppose hatred. He said, “Canada will always protect freedom of expression and freedom of peaceful protest and this is very important to us.” Trudeau said, “Also, we are always ready to stop violence and oppose hate.” I think it’s important to remember that the actions of some people do not represent the whole community or Canada.’

The vote to support a separate state in India, Khalistan, took place on Sunday at the Guru Nanak Sikh Gurdwara Sahib in Surrey, British Columbia. The banned Sikhs for Justice (SFJ), which organized the referendum, said more than 100,000 people attended the event, Global News Channel reported
