Indian MP Vikramjit Sahney Raises Concerns on India-Canada Relations before EAM S. Jaishankar

CHANDIGARH: In a proactive move, Vikramjit Singh Sahney, a member of the Rajya Sabha representing Punjab, has raised concerns about the deteriorating relations between India and Canada. He submitted a memorandum to India’s Foreign Minister, Dr. Jaishankar, expressing apprehension about the current state of diplomatic ties between the two nations. Sahney emphasized the importance of fostering constructive and positive communication to address the issues at hand.

Sahney highlighted the saddening state of diplomatic relations between India and Canada and stressed the need for a more amicable approach to resolve grievances. He emphasized that maintaining open channels of communication was vital and urged both nations to pursue diplomatic discussions to find mutually agreeable solutions.

Furthermore, Sahney pointed out that measures such as the closure of visa facilities in Canada or the reduction of visa facilities in India for travel to Canada would adversely impact millions of Indian families and relatives of students residing in Canada. He emphasized that it was crucial not to inconvenience ordinary citizens of both nations due to minor issues.

In response to Sahney’s concerns, Dr. Jaishankar, the Foreign Minister of India, assured that the Indian government would consider the possibility of resuming visa services in Canada. However, he underlined the necessity for the Canadian government to provide full security assurances to Indian diplomats. This move towards resuming visa services would only be considered once the safety and well-being of Indian officials in Canada were ensured.
